This may be my favorite post because I just LOVE breakfast and starting the day with a health conscious beginning.
Firstly, I would like to talk about the importance of starting the day, before you get out of bed, with a happy mindset. Just setting some intentions, observing how you’re feeling, sending love and healing to yourself and making a conscious choice to have a harmonious day can make such a difference! I know when I don’t do this I really notice the difference. We may still be faced with our daily challenges but we will handle them much better if we get off to a good start.
So hug yourself! Tell yourself that you are amazing! Set an intention to let go of what happened to upset you the day before. If you’re sensitive like me, you will have to work harder to accomplish letting go of yesterday’s problems and starting a fresh day, but the fact that we are making an effort to live more harmoniously is a huge step in the right direction! Get up, smile and walk in harmony!
Everyone is different but…..
Everyone is different, but everyone can benefit from starting the day with healthy, nutritious food. In the age of information overload, it’s easy to get caught up with the latest fad diet or new research, which seems to change so often! My husband recently read an article stating that skipping breakfast maybe good for you. I cannot agree with this unless you’re skipping the donuts, sugary cereals, or egg McMuffins from McDonalds. Maybe avoiding breakfast will work at a time when you’re doing a short term cleanse, but not for everyday living.
There is no one diet that suits all, but I do feel eating a little something every couple hours, the right kinds of things, could be healthier than skipping breakfast, as it may also help to avoid drops in blood sugar.
Start the day with warm water with half of a squeezed lemon and you will crave more fruits than carbs and begin cleansing your body at the same time. Lemons really help stop the sugar craving!
So today I am giving my tips and tricks for starting the day out eating more consciously and ideas for those in a hurry too!
My husband is more of a morning person and he is used to starting the day at the crack of dawn, but I take a little more encouragement and persuasion to get up so early for our morning walk before breakfast, he brings me a cup of lemon water and we then walk for about 30 minutes. He may laugh when he reads this because its been so hot this June in Arizona and I really needed that extra push to leave by 6am to beat the heat!
I also find that going to bed by 10pm helps me start the day out earlier and feeling more rested.
I am being honest and letting you know that it takes practice to stick to your health plan, but keep plodding on and moving forward. Even if you only start with once or twice a week, it’s all good!
Now for the breakfast!
Several times a week we juice things like apples, ginger, beets, carrots or celery. I love my Breville juicer and have had it a long time, but I am sure there are many great juicers out there nowadays. There are also so many recipes and great books for juicing available which give lots of creative ideas . Many of the juices like cabbage and celery have amazing nutrients for healing the body and helping to boost the immune system. Below is a picture of some of the things we like to add into our smoothies for an extra nutritious boost.
Drink it on an empty stomach for healing the gut. I found this amazingly healing! It tastes better than it sounds, as long as you get a good cabbage. The best ones I have found are organic from farmers markets. This juice has worked well for many people with any stomach issues like inflammation, stomach ulcers, and those who want balance in the digestive system. It’s high in Vitamin K, Vitamin C, Vitamin B6 and Manganese. An excellent and nutritious beverage!
This tastes amazing! I would love to see restaurants offering more celery juice in the place of soda! It is also high in Vitamin B6, Vitamin C and Vitamin K. The leaves contain more Vitamin C than the stalk. Another great breakfast beverage.
Homemade yogurt is great for adding more probiotics for healthy digestion. We like to add fresh fruits like apples, pears, cherries, raspberries, etc. It is also very good with raw honey. If there is little time to make home made yogurt, I like several alternatives like Stoneyfield organic plain yogurt.
Water melon is very good for you too. It has lots vitamins and is very hydrating for hot days. You can even juice it and make ice pops for a hot days snack. For breakfast, it is a nice refreshing start to the day.
Melons, grapes, cherries, dates, oranges, and strawberries are all lovely, colorful, and tasty! Be sure to buy organic and wash them well. Another tasty fulfilling breakfast is grain free bread, or at least sprouted gluten free organic bread, with organic cottage cheese.
If you have any inflammation going on, I like to warm a little coconut oil or hemp oil, add a half teaspoon of turmeric and pepper (which works even better when slightly heated), add cottage cheese, and spread the mixture on GF/GMO free bread or crackers for a tasty late breakfast an hour or so after your fruits. You can also add a tasty tomato sliced with a little salt and pepper. Adding pepper in the turmeric while heating with oil also helps the turmeric absorb and adds more flavor.
So start the day out right, hug, smile, walk, set good intentions and eat nutritious foods!
Have a super happy day!
